Strong links, no direction — so we gave it one.
The problem. A client acquired an expired domain with a genuinely strong link profile and no editorial identity. The links pointed at a site that no longer existed; the risk was spending them on content Google would read as unrelated.
The approach. Narrow first. One subject instead of ten: four categories, eight clusters, and a drip calendar of thirty-six articles a quarter, so the growth curve read as a publication, not a dump. The historical links were mapped and the clusters chosen to sit under them — equity spent where it already pointed.
The line that mattered. Rebuilding on an expired domain is legitimate exactly as long as the new site earns the old links’ context. Redirect tricks and topic-jumping are how these projects die; this one lived by staying narrow.
